Understanding the Real Self

Image
Isn’t it an irony that we are looking for peace, love, and happiness everywhere when the reality is that it is within us? I had heard many times before that these virtues are within us, yet never fully realized it because I had not experienced it. Our end desire is not complicated, it is a simple wish to be content. Then, why is it so difficult to experience it? May be because we feel that doing things in the outside world of work, home, and relations will help us attain it. Is this method helping or is it only making us experience momentary peace, love, and happiness? Since we are unable to feel what we desire in any other way, we spend all our time, energy, and resources in the outside world. The real question is to check if that momentary experience of peace is satisfying us, and is that all we want from life? At Brahma Kumaris, I found out that peace can be experienced consistently for an extended period of time. I decided to investigate, and give the new method a try because ...

Healing Everything Outside with Power Within

Image
I recollect a story of a woodcutter that depicts the message of this topic really well. A very hard working woodcutter lived with his family in a village. He typically chopped 15-18 trees a day. His hard work allowed him to feed a family of four. Overtime, the man could only chop 10 trees even after putting in more hours at work. He started sleeping early to get enough rest, but after few weeks he could not even chop five trees in a day. His debts started increasing, body was hurting, and family was almost starving. One of the friends of the woodcutter inquired about his ill-health and misery. After hearing the story from the woodcutter, the friend advised him to get the axe sharpened. The woodcutter said he had no time to go to the city and get his axe sharpened. The friend felt compassion and hoped that the woodcutter got some good senses of taking care of things that were more important. Many times people say they have no time for taking care of the self because they have too ma...

Empower Every Karma with Power Within

Image
The topic of this article reminds me of an eye opening incident from a small orthopedic hospital in Gujrat, India. An earthquake was going to hit an area close to this hospital that was filled with  many physically disabled patients. The entire hospital had to be emptied within a few minutes. It was a scene of utter chaos and terror where everyone was running to save their lives. Some patients who could not even stand on their own feet were walking or running. The strong desire to live generated a will power in them, and that in turn invoked the physical strength. On the other hand few people were emotionally weak but had physical strength to move. The weak spirited ones felt so traumatized that inspite of having the ability to move, they couldn’t take a step forward. The lack of power within took away their physical strength. We spend so much of our time and energy in gaining physical, financial, or status power. The story clearly indicates that every power becomes meaningless, ...

Exposing the Viruses Within

Image
The term RCA (root cause analysis) is used a lot in tech industry, specially during system outages. We are very interested in knowing about the root cause of diseases, financial losses, pollution, etc. Strangely enough we rarely think about the root cause of discontentment in life. Each one of us desires happiness or contentment in life, yet we rarely spend time in checking or understanding what are the viruses that are causing us to be unsatisfied. If we know if the viruses, then the right anti virus software can be built to eradicate them. Spiritual knowledge helps in exposing the viruses that exists within and in building an anti virus system that can eradicate them. What are some symptoms of discontentment? Many times we are spending more time on the symptoms then the root cause. Treating the symptoms will give momentary relief, but the disease of discontentment will keep cropping back. People will typically say expectations, jealousy, materialism, comparison, etc cause us to...

What is the Purpose of Our Life?

Image
Imagine a life where we were told to do tasks but were not given the purpose of those tasks. A spouse asked the other half to make a spread of dishes for 10 people but refused to give the reason for the request. A child demanded for $100 but declined to give the explanation for the need. A manager asked to work on a random tedious task but found it not important to tell the objective of the task. How would we feel doing task after task not knowing its purpose and achievement? Would we be enthusiastic about doing without knowing? My life felt like that many times because I was driving aimlessly, switching lanes randomly, without being fully aware where did I want to reach? I never really had thought about the purpose of my life because I was very busy taking care of many things and doing things that were fun. My life was not bad, but it was aimless, all over the place, and there was no consistency in experience or inner stability. Little did I know that a higher purpose in lif...
